East of Placerville is another historic community of Camino ... home to popular "Apple Hill" where orchards abound ... a place to relax, take in the beauty, especially in the fall when the apples are ripe and autumn shows off its brilliance of colors. Over fifty farms and ranches provide farm fresh fruit and vegetables, baked and canned goods, and crafts and entertainment. Apples are their claim to fame but there is much more to see and do in the beautiful El Dorado countryside. Their high season is from early September to December but some farms are open year round.
With over 50 ranches, the Apple Hill Growers Association (AHGA) area has been a family destination since 1964. That's 50 years! A family trip to visit the Apple Hill Growers means so much more than just apples and pies. It's memories that will last a lifetime! It's berry farms, u-pick apple ranches, and kid-friendly activities. For the grown-ups, it's fine wines and handcrafted beers in an incredible Sierra-soaked setting. It's Christmas trees for as far as your group can wander. So much of the history of Apple Hill has been preserved. The community has gone to tremendous effort to protect their history and offer the public an opportunity to step back in time, if only for a day. Visitors will find their day filled with old-fashioned fun. Plan a picnic on the lush land that surrounds these exciting ranches. Their doors are opened and the growers have gone the extra mile to ensure your family a day that they will remember.
